Summary
Governor Jim Doyle has dedicated his time in office to expanding access to health care, launching innovations to increase participation in higher education, and investing in “green economy” jobs. Governor Doyle inherited the worst deficit in Wisconsin history, but balanced the budget while simultaneously investing in the state’s long-term future.
Governor Doyle announced that he would not seek reelection in 2010.

First elected in 2002, Governor Jim Doyle defeated Republican Scott McCallum by more than 4 points, becoming the first Democratic governor in the state since Governor Anthony Earl was defeated in 1986. Governor Doyle was reelected in 2006 with 53 percent of the vote over Republican Congressman Marc Green.
