Summary
Governor John Baldacci, who was born and raised in Bangor, took office in 2003. Since he was first elected, he launched a statewide health program called Dirigo Health to provide quality, affordable healthcare and dramatically reduced the number of uninsured residents of Maine. He has increased support for small businesses, expanded broadband and wireless access to rural communities and increased enrollment in the community college system.
