In the first year of his freshman gubernatorial term, Gov. Jack Markell has balanced the budget without laying off employees, boosted educational initiatives and increased environmental protections. As a former businessman, Gov. Markell also cut his own salary 20 percent.

- Enacted major educational reform, including abolishing the controversial Delaware Student Testing Program
